last-minute berlin show THIS thursday!!! spread it!

**please forward this to your berlin friends, we need to spread the word ASAFP – you can also share the link http://bit.ly/AFPberlin on twitter, facebook, etc**

hey all –

will catch you all up on london-ness & the results of the webcast soon, it’s been a brilliant week in london, i am wrecked.

meanwhile, last-minute shows, my favorite:

short story….

i got an email a few days ago from a berliner fellow named wolfgang who’s part of a small conference called all2togethernow

they sprang up after popkomm (read article, link at bottom of blog*) – the HUGE german music tech conference that takes place every year – was canceled.

basically, a bunch of folks got together and decided to create a smaller conference, a “new music and culture convention” with a bunch of speakers discussing the state of the music industry….

001

….some people over there have been following my online shenanigans with twitter & they just asked me to play SUPER last-minute and i was going to be in hamburg with neil the next day anyway, so i said HELL YEAH.

i’ll be doing a Q&A at 5:45 and then a quickie show later in the day at 11 pm.

other speakers at the conference include jill sobule (last i heard), wim wenders (he made one of my favorite films of all time, “wings of desire”), Andrew Dubber, Gerd Leonhardt, Melvin Benn, Julie Borchard-Young, and Jim Griffin.

the concert itself is is a DONATION-ONLY show!!!!! – meaning it is technically free….

you do not have to buy tickets to the conference to come.

however, it’ll be an interesting experiment to see if people will donate money to an artist when it’s optional.

i’m suggesting 10 euros….

002

….or bring goats. goats are worth about $200-$450 a piece if i can hock them quickly through goatfinder.com

i’m hoping to do as many shows like this in the future. i believe that an honor/support based artist/audience system is the nazz and hopefully the future of online commerce where music is concerned.

god knows things need to change.

*from http://www.thelocal.de/society/20090619-20073.html:

excerpt:

One of the most important annual events for Germany’s music industry, the fair had been scheduled for September. But Popkomm director Katja Gross said on Friday that a “striking” collapse in the number of expected industry visitors forced organisers to pull the plug on the 2009 edition.

Going from current registrations, Popkomm was likely to draw only half of the 14,000 professional visitors seen last year. The number of exhibitors was also expected to drop from 843 in 2008.

Dieter Gorny, head of the BVMI Music Industry Association, blamed the industry’s woes on rampant piracy on the internet and said he hoped torpedoing Popkomm this year would be a wake up call to Germany’s political elites.

hmmm.
